Mission of English Club: Promote reading and writing through a variety of events and activities.  Students will be exposed to published authors and writing opportunities.

English Club worked with SGA, selling pink ribbons for students to wear on Friday, Oct. 23.  All students were encouraged to wear pink.  English Club also created posters to publicize breast cancer awareness.  Entire student body raised over $1200 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Letters About Literature - National reading promotion program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, presented in partnership with Target and the affiliated state centers for the book. The task for readers is to, "Write a letter to an author explaining how his or her work somehow changed your view of the world of yourself."  Deadline for letters is December 12, 2009   http://www.lettersaboutliterature.org/

The Tapestry of Bronze (http://www.tapestryofbronze.com/OdeForm.html) is sponsoring a series of poetry contests to celebrate Greek and Roman mythology and the Olympian gods. The subject of the second contest is Hera (also known as Juno), the Queen of the Gods.
Poems will be accepted Sept. 15 - Nov. 30, 2009

Seen and Heard Contest - The Freedom Project is seeking 2010 entries for its annual contest, Seen and Heard: National Student Expression Contest and Exhibit. The contest encourages teens to depict their thoughts on contemporary freedom issues through film, editorial cartoons, Web design and photojournalism.

October 21 - Matthew's Miles Walkathon - HS Track, 2:30 - 4:30 PM Students in English Club, Student Government Association, Key Club, and Renaissance Club participated in a satellite Matthew's Miles Walkathon on Oct. 21 on the HS Track.  The purpose of Matthew's Miles Walkathon is to raise brain tumor awareness in the general public and to raise money for pediatric brain tumor research in hope of finding a cure for this devastating illness.   The students have participated in the walkathon for the past 6 years and have committed to helping the Passarella family with their walkathon project.  This year's walkathon donated over $500 to the American Brain Tumor Association.  For more information, visit the Matthew's Miles website.                                                 View pictures of this year's event.  Group Photo  Photo 1   Photo 2  Photo 3  Photo 4     Photo 5                                                                                             Middle School Photos  MS Photo 1   MS Photo 2   MS Photo 3

October 30 - Jeeper's Creepers
   
Students collected eyeglasses for Sight Night sponsored by the Lions Club.  Students collected over 40 pairs of eyeglasses for the Lions Club.  In addition, students had a table at the annual Jeepers Creepers event held at Delsea HS.  Students gave out candy, bookmarks and coloring pages to community children.  View Harry Potter manning the table.

December 5 - Holiday Storyhour    Santa visited Delsea.

December 11 - Author Reception

    Teen author, Damon Lomax was the featured speaker at this year's author reception.  Damon shared selections from his book of poetry, When My Eyes Were Closed.  He also spoke of the inspiration for his work and about his publishing experience.  Photo from reception
