Program Description:

Instrumental Music I is a five credit course designed for the student, in grade9, who has completed Middle School Band or who has past instrumental music training. The course meets daily throughout the year and consists of instruction in the following areas: instrumental techniques that further develop the student's range, musicality, dynamics, key signatures, scales/rudiments, and musical terms; continued work on posture, fingerings/hand positions; and basic knowledge of music theory. Students will be exposed to a variety of ethnic backgrounds in music through the variety of music sight read and performed. The course presents career opportunities available to instrumentalists in all areas. Students are expected to participate in all extra rehearsals, concerts, and performances planned by the director. Students are graded on daily participation, quarterly scale/rudiment tests, musicianship, and concert performances.

Program Purpose:

The Instrumental Music I program purpose is to provide the instrumentalists an outlet for his/her musical talents. It gives the students the opportunity to perform a variety of styles and ethnic backgrounds of music and encourages them to explore and experiment the joys of music through performance.
Intrumental Music I affords the students the opportunity to perform in small and large group situations that offer a source social learning and musical enjoyment that will be used throughout his/her school years as well as adult life.
